Okay, so we know that using rich investigations
in math, where learners have opportunities to experience ideas
leads to
richer, deeper understanding of those ideas (see article,
p.1 Full Contact Math... more about mangoes).
Now... how do we recognize a good investigation/problem when
we see one? How can we design quality investigations ourselves?
How can we use what we see and hear in our classrooms to guide
our problem-solving experiences? How can we use investigations
to differentiate instruction?
Thoughtful answers to these and other questions can be found
in this NCTM Publication, a compilation of insights by accomplished
mathematics educators and researchers.
This book has its place on our ‘A’ shelf, the home
of top-level resources we refer to repeatedly.
