Games to Go
Why Games?
The connection to fun often precipitates a belief that math games are frivolous and a waste of precious classroom time. Indeed, they can be IF they are constructed (or deployed) as fillers, without clear mathematical and pedagogical purpose.
But, not all games are created equal...
Good games can be a powerful part of any math program, providing opportunities for independent rehearsal of ideas explored during more formal classroom instruction. Good math games are designed with a clear mathematical purpose in mind, are inclusive (the win is dependent on chance, not ability) and provide a natural arena for student interaction and math talk. But, for learners, the best part is... they are simply FUN! See a sample...
